The program, implemented by Jean Paul Ho, the manager at the Avenue L office, is a mandatory requirement for all agents, new and seasoned alike, upon joining the Avenue L team. It provides the agent with insight as to how Fillmore conducts business and the necessary tools and information for success in this competitive business of real estate.
On September 8, 2005, Mentors Carine, Eustache- Jones and Natasha Neils-Creary proudly presented Beverly Gordon, David Floyd, Josephine Banks and Brendon Pierre with a congratulatory special achieve-ment award for successfully completing the “Mentor Program”.
When asked about the program, the reviews provided by these new graduates were raving. They expressed their sincere appreciation to their broker/ manager Jean Paul Ho and their mentors, Carine and Natasha.
“I recommend this program to all new agents,” Gordon said, while the husband and wife team of David Floyd and Josephine Banks were very pleased to share even more insight about the program.
“This program has opened my eyes to the real word of real estate,” said David. “My mentors provided invaluable information, which I was able to use to secure my first listing. I would recommend this program to all new agents. I look forward to becoming a mentor myself”.
His wife said she recommends the program because it has helped her to understand the real estate business and her mentors have always made themselves available and welcomed questions whether they made sense or not. “Although we are out of the program,” she said, “our mentors continue to be available to us for assistance.”
Brendon Pierre, on the other hand, just wanted to thank his mentors by saying, “This is the best program in the world.”
The graduates have been a part of the Fillmore Avenue L team for no more than three months and have started their road to success not only with a few contracts but with at least one listing each.
In order to complete the program, these graduates not only received guidance but also one-on-one and group training.
They were given a list of twenty-five things to be completed in order to graduate from the program. The list continues to serve as the basics for success throughout the agent’s entire real estate career.

Fillmore Avenue L Mentoring Program: An Idea That Works

Now-Mentor Linda Tontonillo, left, and her mentor Rosemarie Fitzpatrick. The philosophy at Fillmore-Avenue L Real Estate towards its new agents is to instill in them the ethics and professionalism incumbent in all 50 of their current agents. That’s why they have a program within their own group entitled the “mentor-mentoree” program to help the fledgling agents get a good hold on things right away — but with ease.
Jean Paul Ho, manager of the Fillmore office at 9317 Avenue L (between East 93 and East 94 streets) proudly heralded the local office as the only one that subscribes to the mentor program.
“It’s one way we let our new agents know that we think about them not as numbers but as human beings who can use some assistance, as with any new job, and who have someone they can come to and ask questions whenever necessary,” he said.
New mentors Natasha Neils-Creary, left, and Carine Eustache-Jones with their mentor Fitz-patrick. When a new agent comes on board, the plan at Fillmore is to have him or her eventually able to answer a list of at least 25 pertinent questions, ranging in intent from market appraisal to ethics to even the simplest theories on etiquette, so that they can show politeness even in the most aggravating of circumstances.
Another couple of mentors: Hayden Stephen and Latoya Givens. “Of course, the new personnel come in as mentorees,” Jean Paul said, “and then, after a short educational period, they become mentors. Eventually, they can become managers.”
In keeping with the plan, some of the mentorees became mentors last week, at which time Jean Paul set aside a short congratulatory session where they were given plaques attesting to their graduate positions. It won’t be long until they have their own crop of mentorees to direct.
